Tourism Degree Programme

Topic 1: Methods applied to Tourism Research; Tourists motivations and behavior
Lecture Dates: 25 – 30 April, 2010

Target Audience: 1st and 2nd Year students. Day classes/courses

Working Plan: Two 1h30m classes; -Contents of the sessions: Theory,  formal presentation/lecture on the designated topic; Practice: problem solving, debate, hands-on activities, group/pair work, etc.                                        Selection Criteria: Contents of the proposed working plan and its relevance in the context of the Degree/Course Programme (goals/learning outcomes)

Topic 2: German for Tourism (level A1)
Lecture Dates: November 1-5 or November 8-12 2010 Target Audience: 2nd year tourism students 
Working Plan: - 1 to 3-hour and 1 to 2-hour classes:
- Introduction and presentation of the country of origin (use of authentic materials requested);
- Oral, listening and written activities related to basic grammar and language functions of simple, everyday interactions (e.g. describing daily routines, expressing preferences, asking and giving directions, …);

Please note: students with no previous language knowledge; aim at A1 language level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/Source/Framework_EN.pdf)

Topic 3: German for Tourism
Lecture Dates: May 25-29 or June 1-5 2011 Target Audience: 2nd year tourism students 
Working Plan: - 1 to 3-hour and 1 to 2-hour classes:
- Introduction and presentation of the country of origin (use of authentic materials requested);
- Oral, listening and written activities related to grammar structures and language functions of tourism-related communication contexts (e.g. describing and recommending tourist attractions, describing and recommending accommodation)

Topic 4: English for Tourism (level B1/B2)
Lecture Dates: November 29 until December 10, 2010                        Target Audience: 1rst year tourism students 
Working Plan: - 1 to 3-hour and 1 to 2-hour classes:
- Introduction and presentation of the country of origin (use of authentic materials requested);
- Oral, listening and written activities related to the topic of tourist promotion/promotional language, particularly in the context of the hotel and conference business.

Topic 5: English for Tourism (level B1/B2)
Lecture Dates: April 4-23, 2011 Target Audience: 1rst year tourism students 
Working Plan: - 1 to 3-hour and 1 to 2-hour classes:
- Introduction and presentation of the country of origin (use of authentic materials requested);
- Oral, listening and written activities related to the topic of tour guiding (describing a monument/an event/a production process)
